the National Historic Register. The seven counties represented in
this collection include: Big Stone, Chippewa, Douglas, Grant, Lac
Qui Parle, Swift, and Traverse. All nominations forms include a brief
history pertaining to the sites being nominated and a picture of the site.

Nelson discusses her early teaching career in Big Stone County, MN
during the 1920's and 1930's and her work as rural school superintendent
from 1934-1958. She also described her own years of schooling, her
parents' philosophy of education, switching between the Swedish and English
languages at home and school, and her personal philosophy on education.
