KAUFMAN, DOROTHYBELLE

Collection contains several different items. A memoir and newspaper
story of a young woman during the Sioux Uprising of 1862, a diary of Kaufman's
grandfather relates his experiences during a military campaign to push
the Indians out of Minnesota, a speech given by her father (H.L. Mills)
at an Oddfellows club meeting in 1890, and an account of WWI recruiting
experiences of her other grandfather, George Wilson McCree, comprise most
of this collection. It also contains Kaufman's friend Mary Anne Banken's
account of her immigration to America from Holland in 1894, and an interview
(1979) with Elmer Benson, a former governor of Minnesota. [1194] |

This tape was donated by Radio Station KDIO reporter Cindy Hayes, who
covered the Farm Foreclosure action held at the Big Stone County Courthouse
in Ortonville, MN. The 1985 farm foreclosure was of the Kowalzyck
farm of rural Barry, MN. The tape records the conversations of the
Big Stone County Sheriff Orin Haukos and Bert Henningson and Dick Hanson,
immediately prior to the sale, and the shouts from the protestors who wished
