This website was created at UMM for ArtH 4001, Women in Art, as a final project
discussing the life and work of one major woman artist. I chose to research
Audrey Flack because her work was interesting to me. It was something unlike
anything I had seen before. I was particularly captivated by her photorealism,
works which at first seemed cluttered to me but eventually seemed very
full of meaning and intricately designed. Her style and method of creating
the artwork is also fascinating.
Flack strikes me as a very accessible artist. Many of her subjects, such as Marilyn Monroe, Holocaust victims, and JFK are readily recognizable by the average viewer, yet Flack has few fansites on the internet. I created this so that a greater population could have access to Flack's art as well as an analysis of her work.
All images were scanned from Breaking the Rules: Audrey Flack, A
Retrospective, 1950-1990 by Thalia Gouma-Peterson.
All works used are parenthetically cited and a full bibliography is located
at http://cda.morris.umn.edu/~lamberts/audreyflack/bib.html.
